The Tooth Fairy Quits

I have to admit that I have been a lousy Tooth Fairy. More often than not I forget to do my job, mainly because I am not a night person and so need my sleep. On occasion I have delegated to my DH, but he mostly forgets too. And I have felt so guilty when my kids have woken up only to feel sad that the Tooth Fairy failed them (occasionally for the third, fourth, and fifth nights in a row at times)!

So today I quit.

Sweetie Peach lost a tooth on Monday. I was at work, but OneHM was watching the girls and was kind enough to e-mail me a picture. As soon as we got home she put her tooth under her pillow. And I promptly forgot all about about it. Tuesday morning rolled around and, par for the course, the Tooth Fairy had failed to show up. {She was sleeping on the job after a late night reading Eclipse.}

Then the very next day Kitty lost a molar.

And that was just the last straw. I resigned as the Tooth Fairy, got some dollar bills from my purse, and paid up.

Retirement feels glorious.

  1. that is so funny, I keep wondering how long I have to keep this up, at least I only have 2 kids!

  2. good for you. I did exactly the same thing several years ago. I just said, "look, its not worth it to me to keep this up. Here's a dollar; throw that tooth in the garbage." Turns out that as long as you hand a kid a dollar they pretty much don't care about the other stuff!

  3. I was so glad when my kids got through this phase of life. But now that I see my grand kids excited about having the tooth fairy come, I miss it. Enjoy the moment, but don't beat yourself up over it either. Paying up front might be a better idea. :0)

  4. That's hilarious, Becky. I've never been a huge fan of the T.F.; I'm even sloppy hoping they'll figure it out.

  6. That's about where I am. I have one who still sorta kinda believes, but I always forget. Next one up recently showed me a lost tooth and basically told me to pay up. Much simpler!
