Book Review: The Hunger Games

Holy cow! This was a great book! Probably one of the best I have read all year. Buy it--read it. Seriously.

The sequel, Catching Fire, was equally well written. And I am looking forward to reading the third in the series, Mockingjay.

  1. I thought you might like this series! I was hook, too.

  2. Okay, I have the first two and I have not been able to get myself to read them although everyone I know has liked them. My husband and daughter both liked the first two but said they were a bit morbid so I have not been very enthused. And now my daughter and friend both just finished the third one and both thought it was disturbing. I am interested in hearing your thoughts on the book after you read it.

  3. I'm with Linda--I am worried about the disturbingness of it. Were you not disturbed?

  4. Just finished the 3rd one. Very interesting (yes, still end-of-the-world morbid, scary)

  5. I felt the author did a good job explaining the violence without being gratuitous. And the fact that the main characters found the violence/games to be terrible made it feel morally balanced. I think it was good to be a bit disturbed; it shows our moral compasses are working correctly. I think the author could have taken it to a whole higher level but refrained (appropriately). I also like how Katniss and other characters are (realistically)emotionally disturbed and scarred. People should know that this kind of violence leaves long lasting effects.

  6. I've started Mockingjay, and I think Becky is reading the first one on her cruise. It will be interesting to see if she liked it, I for one love the series.
